Mini
Hockey is a modified form of hockey and it is usually played by children under
ten years of age. Unlike hockey, mini hockey is played indoors. Compared to
conventional hockey, in mini hockey the playground area is relatively shorter.
The hockey goal and the hockey stick are also smaller. This is done to ensure
that the game is safer and more enjoyable for children. Also for more safety,
the players are encouraged to wear a mouth guard and shin guards for both
training and playing. Some players also prefer to wear goggles during the game.
There is also a rule that at no point of time the player should raise the stick
above the waist height.

The Mini Hockey kit consists of all the components required for the play. One can
also use various gears and components of the game as and when required. Things
used in the game are – 2 goals, sticks for all the players, pads, helmet for
the goalie and a soft puck or a ball. The right equipment is necessary for playing
better as it helps in enhancing performance. Also the fact that children are
involved in this game, the gear has to be more protective. The sticks are
usually made of plastic so that they are lightweight yet strong.

Rules of Mini Hockey
Though
the main aim is to put the puck or the ice in opponent’s net. There are certain
rules that are in general and need to be followed in any case.
The
primary rule is of team composition. The team consists of 5 to 6 players. The 6
player team has positions such as three forwards, two defense men, and one goalie.
No pushing of opponent’s is allowed.
The
second rule is about puck-icing that is, shooting the puck over the red lines
from the center and the goal mark. Like normal hockey, mini hockey and Knee Hockey too has the
off side rule.
The
third rule is about the player’s on field behavior. On breaking the rules, he
is sent to the penalty box.
